A message from the artist:
The title UPAS NITAY in the indigenous Ainu language means “snow” and “forest.” The harmony between snow and trees in Hokkaido is printed on traditional Japanese paper, Washi. Soft, gentle light is captured among the harsh Hokkaido winter. Living in such an environment, the Ainu people had faith in the supernatural presence, Kamui. I hope that these photographs will invite you to the mysterious snowy world of Hokkaido.
