Niseko has been patiently waiting for enough snow to get the winter season under way, and it appears as though we've got plenty on the way. Mountainwatch has Niseko sitting at the top of the list for expected snowfall, with 19 cm due to fall over the next 3 days and 44 cm over the course of the week.
It is the news that the village has been waiting to hear following Wednesday's confirmation that Grand Hirafu Resort's opening – initially scheduled for November 21 – would be delayed. Niseko can now hope for a repeat of last year when, after a late opening, the resort received more than 560 cm before New Year's Eve, including 14 days in December with snowfalls of more than 20 cm.
